About George
George Jones is a Boston-based trombonist and trombone teacher with a career spanning performance, community music education, and private instruction. He earned his B.M. from the Oberlin Conservatory and his M.M. in Trombone Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Timothy Higgins.
Since 2018, George has maintained an active performing career throughout the greater Boston area, currently serving as acting principal of the Brockton Symphony Orchestra and as trombonist for the Reagle Musical Theatre. He also regularly performs with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Bangor Symphony Orchestra, Moonbox Theatre, and the Umbrella Arts Center, and spends part of each semester recording original student compositions for Berklee's Contemporary Writing and Production Program.
As a teacher, George has worked with students of all ages and skill levels — from complete beginners to advanced musicians preparing for auditions — through his work with the Community Music Center of Boston and as a teaching artist with Virtu.Academy. His teaching philosophy centers on strong technical fundamentals paired with curiosity, confidence, and a genuine relationship with music-making.
